Viura grapes sourced from 40-year-old vines in Rioja Alta are vinified separately from complementary batches of Tempranillo Blanco and Sauvignon Blanc. All three undergo long macerations on the skins to extract optimum primary fruit characteristics and the must is extracted via a gentle press. Alcoholic fermentation begins in stainless steel before racking into new oak barrels where it is completed, the wine is then aged on the lees for extra depth and complexity.
Lovely aromas of ripe limes and grapefruit on the nose with hints of peach and a creamy brioche note; the oak is subtle and perfectly balanced, not at all intrusive. The palate is full and round with superb weight and acidity and with more of that citrus-tropical combo flourishing through. This really is an excellent, quite complex wine for the money, certainly one of the best of its kind on the market and it has forced us to re-assess our views on white Rioja.
