Demente by name, demented by nature. Talk about pushing the envelope? A blend of 55% Malbec and 45% Cab Franc from eight separate vineyards with forty days between the first and last pick, each new parcel is unceremoniously bunged on top of what is effectively a fermentation in progress. It slows down and starts again in concrete eggs with a whole new load of 'ingredients', finally resulting in a wine with layer upon layer of character and complexity. The wine has amazing lemony notes on the nose with herbs and dried flowers. Very dark in colour, nervy and tense in the best possible sense on the palate. It's a revelation and, again, the Decanter judges were mad for it...
"Expressive, uplifting, lively raspberry, cherry and blackberry as well as refined herbal overtones. Fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity and lovely savoury notes. Sophisticated, with finesse."
Outstanding, 18.5 / 20, Dirceu Vianna Jnr MW, Decanter, July 2015 (2013 vintage)
